Business in the 21st Century
By Mark Taylor
Why do we cry with our investments reaching less than we payed two years ago, our house prices falling at unprecedentd rates, our job security a thing of the past?. It was always on the cards, a certain inevitability that the market would evolve and move into a global condition. Surely when you look for a purchase from China or Taiwan you must realise that the manufacturing and production jobs will be gravitating to those countries!!. It's obvious but sometimes we cant see the wood for the trees. Especially in Britain we love the hysteria of bad news! it courses through our culture to be a little depressed with everything around us, to look at the glass as half empty is commonplace and we are happy moaners. The kind of inherent teachings that have conditioned us to be miserable enough to moan about our lack of opportunity, our future prospects and even our weather yet not miserable enough to go out of the door and seek information and association that could change the way we think, and ultimately change the world around us. It reminds me of the story of a young journalist visiting a local old man in the south of America. The old man was partial to rocking in his chair evry evening with his faithful old hound lying on the wooden porch beside him. Every few hours or so the old hound would let out a frightful howl, and then settle back down. When the old man was questioned about the hound's behaviour the old man replied. " where the old mutt likes to lie there is a nail sticking up through the wooden board, and it's sticking in his belly! It must hurt him so he let's out that howl." The young journalist asked the old man why the hound didn't move somewhere else away from the nail. The old man replied " well son it obviously doesn't hurt him enough to move" I wonder how many people are hurting today just like the old mans hound! The world has moved on and those left behind are on their own nails but refuse to move to a new part of the 'porch' We find it easier to blame the government, blame the lack of opportunity, the country, in fact anything except the real reason people are not willing to change. That reason is fear! It paralizes us and hold those fast to what they know. I would like the reader to search out what you know, that you dont know.! Seek and ye shall find |
